A.D. LEWIS (2011)
Lewis (Outback Red X Bill Fall)
6" flower, 40" scape, 3 way branching, 17 buds, MLa, Dor. Tet
Hybridizer’s description: I named this special red daylily for my grandfather. My grandfather was a fireman in Cleveland, Ohio for many years, and when he wasn't doing that he also was an excellent brick layer. I wouldn't be doing my grandfather justice if I didn't name one of my best daylilies for him. The one thing that makes a daylily special is if you look across a daylily field and it stands apart from the rest. A.D. Lewis is that daylily. Just looking at the photograph, you'd probably say it is just another red, but I assure you, it will distinguish itself in your garden. A hardy dormant that is pollen fertile, but pod difficult.
A.D. LEWIS HOLDS A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY GARDEN. ITS TALL SCAPES AND DEEP CLEAR RED MAKES AN IMPACT. POD AND POLLEN FERTILE.

ABOUT BITTERSWEET FARM: Our ten acres of woods, ravines, and garden beds is located outside of Granville, Ohio. In this part of Ohio (zone 6A), we grow in clay soil amended with lots of manure, peat, compost, etc. Temperatures can drop to -20, so the daylilies I sell must be hardy enough to survive our winters. Rust does not overwinter here, and I’ve never seen it in the garden. I start seeds from my own crosses each year in our small greenhouse, and everything else is grown outside -- all of our named cultivars, as well as our seedlings, are field grown, hardy, and beautiful.
Please let me know if you ever have a concern about plants you receive from me. I stand behind everything I sell. I hope that you get as much pleasure from these daylilies as I do.
Unless otherwise noted, all photos belong to Bittersweet Farm and were taken in our garden.
