We mix our own soil, including alfalfa, bone meal, blood meal and WORM CASTINGS. We feed primarily with Miracle Grow with minors and SEAWEED CONCENTRATE. We do not force our plants. We use good old California sunshine, water and nutrients. We rely heavily on organic products for insect and disease control---we have LADYBUGS, GREEN LACEWINGS AND PRAYING MANTIS on patrol for us. 

This was a nice single fan, but has now pushed a scape and divided. "vibrant scarlet red color and jagged fringey edge of brightest 14K gold". I could not get my picture to upload, but the truth is the flower is much better that the picture.

 I was one of only 3 people given a plant of Matthew Kaskel's “Best Edge” the year it bloomed, and I used it to wretched excess. This powerhouse parent appeared to be “the parent-of-parents” and when my first crop of “Best Edge” kids bloomed excitement reigned supreme. Never before had I seen so much beauty in such a diverse range of colors most dripping with gaudy gold edges. Then reality set in and after two full bloom seasons, I realized most of these beauties were still tiny single or double fan plants with 10" scapes and 6 buds. Then there were the huge, powerful seedlings replete with massive scapes and 4-way branching; but having mediocre blooms!  I've long been on a quest for beautiful gold edged reds and I used “Best Edge” on every red showing even a hint of an edge, from SPARTAN WARRIOR, RUBY CORONA and ROYAL GYPSY to LAST SAMURAI and WHITE FANG. In a bed of over 200 “Best Edge” reds, RUBY SPARKLER stood alone with its vibrant scarlet red color and jagged fringey edge of brightest 14K gold. I grow nearly all the new “gold-edged reds” for comparison, and I haven't seen any that come close to the red color possessed by this 5" actual scarlet red beauty.  Plants are medium large, strong and vigorous, requiring no winter protection despite evergreen plant habit. Scapes moderately well branched with 2-3 laterals and about 20 buds. Fertile both ways. FALL ONLY     $250.00
