NANCY THOMAS
(Benz) tet30" M. Dor. (Chance Encounter X Oh Great One)
NANCY THOMAS is an incredible flower and certainly our finest pink introduction to date. We are pleased to name this beauty in honor of Sarah's seventh and eighth grade lit teacher, Miss Nancy Thomas. Nancy played a large part in making Sarah's transition to a new school a happy one. This spectacular 6" rose pink boasts deep lavish ruffling and a seldom seen combination of glamour and elegance. An early morning opener, and always perfect day-in and day-out, even when nights dip into the 40s. Proving itself the "parent-of-parents," NANCY THOMAS has elevated my breeding program to a new level of refinement, and is producing the "next generation" of seedlings in all colors, from pink and rose, through lavender, purple and red. My largest, most ruffled red is from NANCY THOMAS, as well as my best purple. These seedlings were used in 90% of all my red and purple crosses last summer and there are more to come. Foliage is huge, arching, and in perfect balance to the strong scapes and big ruffled blooms. Not just a pretty face, NANCY THOMAS forms one of the largest and most beautiful clumps in my entire garden-especially impressive for a blue green hard dormant. Combining more superlative qualities than any other pink I grow, I believe NANCY THOMAS will redefine what we consider "state-of-the-art" in pink and rose tetraploids for years to come. 30" tall scapes with 2 laterals, a bud-count of 25, progressive bloom habit, and predictable rebloom, provide for a long and protracted bloom season. An easy pod-parent, and extremely valuable to every hybridizer seeking to increase ruffling, gold edges, and heavy substance as well as early opening in all colors. Also, and I can't overstate the importance of this, NANCY THOMAS is a dominant hard dormant, throwing mostly dormant seedlings even when crossed to tender evergreens! No amount of carefully calculated crossing could have produced this astounding beauty. Only by blind luck and the grace of God could everything come together so perfectly. A highpoint in my 30 years of pink tetraploid breeding, and a flower of which I could scarcely conceive when I started hybridizing. A great daylily named for a great lady. Thank you Nancy!........... $250.00
