The only introduction from a long run of over 60 seedlings from this cross. JEWEL IN A CROWN was one of those gold edged pastel mauve daylilies that seemed to fall through the cracks so to speak. Despite a lackluster color, this big tetraploid had near perfect plant habit with beautiful arching foliage and fabulous multi-branched scapes that held blooms outfacing unlike most in this genre. Add instant rebloom and extreme fertility both ways, and I knew I had to use it. The results speak for themselves. I obtained introductions from everything with which it was crossed, and HANDCRAFTED is one of my favorites. This 5" rich violet purple with its deep green throat and ornate 14k gold edge has the most perfectly spaced branching I have ever seen. 3-4 lateral branches are evenly spaced at graduated heights high and low on the strong 28" scapes. Blooms never hang despite very heavy substance and a big gaudy braided gold edge. Flat open at dawn and always perfect, with horns and spikes protruding from the unopen buds that disappear when the sepals recurve. Flowers look almost artificial in their perfection. Did I mention that HANDCRAFTED is a crown building blue- green dormant and a reliable re-bloomer here in zone 6? Extremely fertile both ways and a superb parent. $200.00
