Auction is for 5 seeds from the cross of GREAT CREATOR X RAZOR BEAST.
POD PARENT:
GREAT CREATOR
Ripley’s seedling10NR593B (Randy Stephens x Red Friday)Tet
Height 36”, bloom 5.5 +, 4-5 way branching, easy pod setter, pollen excellent. It has been early in my garden, Dormant, and Reblooms. Great red that does not spot with teeth on petals & sepals a plenty.
I will introduce this seedling in 2017. First bloomed in 2012, I feel it gets better each year. In 2013 I moved and divided the plant into two clumps, it still set pods and multiplied.
Last fall I divided one of the clumps. Winner will receive 1 blooming size fan to be shipped in spring 2016. This plant is field grown and hardy in my garden zone 4/5. It has gone through 2 of the hardiest winters we have had since I started hybridizing. It increases well naturally. It is outstanding in my field garden. 10MR593 always opens and doesn’t get hung up. This is one of my best seedlings to date. Outstanding in every way.
POLLEN PARENT:
Razor Beast
(Gossard, James) 2017 introduction
(Heavenly Velocirapter x Sharky`s Revenge) x (Venus Flytrap x Wolfman)
Seedling number hvelsrevvftt1
Tetraploid 25" Mid Late Season Dormant emo fr 8" 3-4 way branching 15-18 buds. Fertile both ways. Rebloomer. Very good rust resistance. Northern Hardy.
Flowers are burgundy red with a lighter eye and a yellow throat. The petals have a gold to white edge which is covered with teeth.
When introducing a flower, I look at three things- 1. Is the flower an improvement over the previous generation, 2. Is it a good grower and addition to the world of daylilies, 3. Is it distinctive in some way. The minute I saw Razor Beast I was struck by how distinctive this daylily is. Have you ever seen a toothy edge that wide on that narrow of a petal? Not only do the teeth really stand out, but they change in color from white near the throat to gold near the tips of the petals. Some toothies only have teeth on the petals, while this one has teeth on petals and sepals- and not only teeth, but two colors of teeth! If you like distinctive toothy flowers, this one takes it to a whole new level.....$200 SF.
