Fall is the best part of the year here in the Carolinas. The days are pretty much clear, crisp, and cool. It's when we have fires in the fire pit, start baking without running up the A/C bill, and spend time cleaning up the garden to make ready for Winter. The other thing that we look forward to is CIDER! My youngest son is part owner and Cidermaster of Bull City Ciderworks. If you put dot com after it, you will be transported to their website. In the Fall the Ciderbars serve hot apple cider with mulling spices. It really hits the spot!! If you are ever in the Durham, NC, or Lexington, NC areas---stop by and enjoy a glass of his cider. Of course I'm biased, but he really does know what he's doing: He has a Master's Degree in microbiology. He is ever creating new and unusual things to taste. You should find at least one that puts a smile on your face. My favorite is: Cherry Tart. Let me know which you liked the most.

Without any doubt in my mind---This past year was the BEST Growing/Blooming season we have had in over twenty years! Cultivars that never wanted to cooperate--produced pods---that actually had SEEDS in them! Because I ended up with SOOOO many seeds---and that produced three "SAVE" bags, I decided to go through those bags and pull only a realistic amount of seeds for myself to grow (about 600 seeds). The rest are put back into the mix to be auctioned. Those are seeds from crosses that tripped my trigger---and may trip yours as well. You will see them when the seeds arrive--they are marked "save". Normally they are auctioned as a group on the last auction of the year. This year they will remain as a surprise until they arrive.

Fall is the best time of the year for weather. The threat of hurricanes is usually abating, the days are mostly clear and ever cooler. The birds either head off to the South, or visit the bird feeders more. And then--the BEST PART! The changing leaf colors that amaze us with a rainbow of brilliant colors. This is the same amazement that happens nine months later in the daylily garden. Definitely something to look forward to! However, it will not happen without daylilies---and the most exciting are many times---the ones you grow (and maybe name). Here are some seeds to make that happen for you.

You will have to do some homework using the American Hemerocallis Society Database, and the All Things Plants Daylily Database run by The National Gardening Association (easy to find with Google) to research the crosses to see if they meet your needs. It will be well worth your effort.
