Pod parent: MIRROR SHADES (Michaels 2010 introduction registered in 2009) EM 27" SEV 5" medium rosy lavender with large blue violet washed eye over green throat, the ruffled tepal edges are considerably lighter in color and the sepals display a white watermark. First bloomed in 2002. Rebloomed well in 2011 and 2012 despite the dry (now, that's an understatement!) summers. One lateral and 18 buds usually, though it can do many more if not overpodded and it's a fairly fast increaser but, alas, is so far only pod fertile. Had I been more with it at the time of registration, I would have registered it as an UF because it's decidedly spatulate. Makes small to average sized diploid fans (CHIN WHISKERS X LITTLE WITCHING HOUR).
Pollen parent: NNWSHHYP-8 (unregistered) L 42” DOR 11” With thick, sturdy scapes and 2 laterals holding 22 buds, I could not help but select this curled and twisted orchid Cascade Unusual Form with its big yellow to chartreuse throat when it first bloomed in 2015. Unopened buds often look as if they are spiraled. I’d almost introduced its mother, and still keep it as a bridge plant, because it has great branching with 30+ buds but chose its sibling, MAIN SQUEEZE, for its extreme form instead. NNWSH27HYP-8 is definitely in contention for future (2019 or 2020) introduction. [(NINA NINA WOLVERINA x SCISSORHANDS) X HYPER].
Goals: Pink, rose and purple Unusual Forms.
