Pod parent: STARSHOT (Michaels 2017) this 6½” orchid mauve blend with deeper halo over a yellow cream to chartreuse throat most often displays missing color chevrons on the petals and sometimes on the sepals (the reverse of the common cold dominant patterns where sepals more often display missing color). The wiry scapes are another worthy attribute being 37” with 2-3 laterals under a terminal W and 20-30 buds. It is very pod and pollen fertile and it clumps up rapidly. Makes narrow fans. {[SCRAMBLED LEGS x (CHIN WHISKERS x LITTLE WITCHING HOUR)] X [(CRAZY PIERRE x SCRAMBLED LEGS) x (DIVERTISSMENT x TENNESSEE FLYCATCHER)]}.
Pollen parent: LESWIZ-1 (unregistered) M 37” DOR 5½ This was a precocious seedling, first blooming in 2015 after being planted out in 2014 (most seedlings take 3 years to bloom here because I don’t get them in the ground until July) and it went straight to the selected bed. I was happy that the pale lemon cream flowers were not as round as mom, and even happier that they almost always displayed significant patterning in the eye with varying shades of blue violet and red violet the first year. Pattern was less common in the record heat of 2016, but the genetics are there, and every bloom had pattern in the cooler 2017 bloom season. In fact, I took photos of 21 separate blooms. Scapes present one lateral under a terminal W and average 29 buds. This may be a 2019 or 2020 intro, especially after seeing several patterned kids from it. (LENNON SPEX X WIZARD DELUXE).
Goals: Patterns!
