Pod parent: MIMI’S BANNER (Michaels 2016 intro registered in 2015) Mre 36” DOR Named in memory of the lovely and feisty Mimi Schwarz, commemorating the day she and Bob Schwarz first met, this narrow 8” rose lilac displays a deep wine eye and chartreuse throat. From 20-27 wavy-edged blooms appear on scapes with 2 laterals and a terminal Y. Rebloom during the wetter years of 2013 and 2014 was even better than the first set of scapes and flowers then averaged 9” across. Fertile both ways, it makes small to average sized fans with bright green leaves. Opens early and stays awake late. Seedling NNWBCS-27 (NINA NINA WOLVERINA X BANSHEE CRADLESONG).
Pollen parent: NNWSHHYP-8 (unregistered) L 42” DOR 11” With thick, sturdy scapes and 2 laterals holding 22 buds, I could not help but select this curled and twisted orchid Cascade Unusual Form with its big yellow to chartreuse throat when it first bloomed in 2015. Unopened buds often look as if they are spiraled. I’d almost introduced its mother, and still keep it as a bridge plant, because it has great branching with 30+ buds but chose its sibling, MAIN SQUEEZE, for its extreme form instead. NNWSH27HYP-8 is definitely in contention for future (2019 or 2020) introduction. [(NINA NINA WOLVERINA x SCISSORHANDS) X HYPER].
