Pod parent: TRCWLWHPGIG-17 (unregistered) 36” M DOR 7” heavy-substanced red violet with double etched eye on petals, a white chevron on the sepals and a yellow green throat. Selected in 2014 for the substance and movement of the tepals since, to date, Unusual Form movement is a rarity in patterned blooms. Very strong scapes hold 2 laterals under the terminal Y and 20-24 buds. {[TRAHLYTA x (CHIN WHISKERS x LITTLE WITCHING HOUR)] x PRETTY GRAPHIC] X INSTANT GRAFFITI}.
Pollen parent: WKTM2IG-19 (unregistered) I’ve been fooled by first bloomers before so when this seedling opened its mere 5 very weird flowers in 2017, I didn’t bother to use its pollen. In 2018, when all the blooms on 4 scapes looked like this, its kinkiness overshadowed that fact that it was only 24” tall. Red violet with a bit of lighter halo over a chartreuse throat, the flowers were sometimes streaked with white but each always had crests at the tips on either side of its midribs on every petals. Usually the crests devolved closer towards the center of the bloom into paler ridges, and when I first noticed the flower in 2017, I thought “how cool, it has pale stripes on each petal tip” but no, it was really crests similar to those on Curt Hanson’s THE OWL that he called “owl ears.” It certainly has better color than THE OWL. Blooms are 6˝” and the plant is most likely DOR. Only 8-9 buds per scape, but who cares – there’s so much breeding potential! {[(WILSON SPIDER x KINDLY LIGHT) x TOMORROW'S SONG) x MILITARY SCHOOL] X INSTANT GRAFFITI}.
Goals: Growing these out and then crossing them with each other or another set of seedlings from WKTM2IG-19 might be the best way to capture the tip cresting, unless, of course, you already have a plant that demonstrates this trait.
