Pod parent: MVMLS47WIZ-27 (unregistered) 36” (33” in 2018) DOR 7” Despite its lack of skinniness, this rosy orchid was my favorite among the 2016 seedlings due to the strong contrast in the patterned eye. The scape was a powerful selling point as well with 2 laterals under a terminal W and 28 buds. Even though it wasn’t completely established after being moved to the selected bed, I just couldn’t resist setting pods on it in 2017. [(MAUDE’S VALENTINE x MILITARY SCHOOL) X WIZARD DELUXE].
Pollen parent: DMAB6TTBBSO83-22 (unregistered) Gotta admit that I fell in love with the color and form and pattern of this new-for-2017 seedling. Clear medium pink with a red violet eye broken by multiple chevrons, the Spider ratio of the 12 blooms ranged from 3.857 (boo hoo…) to 5.4:1 (yippee!). Cascading, recurving blooms were 8” with a 13” wingspan. Promptly moved to the selected bed. Still had 12 buds in 2018 on 30” scapes, but, since almost everything was remarkably shorter in 2018 (flooding in 2017 followed by excessive heat and drought in 2018?), I expect it to get taller in future years. One of the few seedlings that showed patterning in the hottest part of the 2018 summer. {(Dallas Star seedling x MALACHITE PRISM) x ADDERBOLT] x BANSHEE CRADLESONG] X (TOOKY TOOKY BIRD x BANSHEE SONATA)}.
