Tumbleweed (Pierce, G. '20) x Tyrannosaurus Rex (Gossard J 2021) – 5 sds Tumbleweed *TUMBLEWEED Pierce G. 563-A ((Red eye/White Teeth Seedling x Spinefeld) x Matthew Weldon) EV, E, RE, 34” high, 6.75” flower, 6-way branching, 30-35 buds, Fragrant. Ever bloomer .
If the first thing you think of here is “Oh My God” then I agree… There is nothing average about this daylily, nor does it have bad hair days. TUMBLEWEED is the garden name for 563 A, there were many lovelies from this cross, but in this one – It all came together. A favorite of Karen and mine, and well -everyone. Besides having all good traits, TUMBLEWEED is another daylily where even after setting seed, on the 3rd and 4th set of scapes and more, the plant does not shrink down. It is very healthy and sports my typical low arching mound of foliage, with taller scapes. Dark plum, black eye, rich in color, double edging of only teeth and tentacles, in both pure white and chartreuse lemon on both wide petals and sepals. Opens like a champion, and as a breeder has MANY possibilities – Just think about it… Extremely pod and pollen fertile. TUMBLEWEED and her kids will take you far far away. The picture can say the rest. As I am keeping back 20 pots for continued breeding, she is LIMITED Tyrannosaurus Rex
(Gossard, James) 2021 Tetraploid introduction (tetra Emerald Starburst) x (Spacecoast White Fang) Seedling number K-50 Tetraploid 32" Mid Late Season Dormant emo Fragrant 6-6.5" 3-4 way branching 18-22 buds. Fertile both ways. Rebloomer. Very good rust resistance. USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 4-10. Flowers are red with lighter pink feathered tricolor eye zone and large white fangs, tentacles and shark's teeth tricolor edge. An exceptionally large green throat. An extremely difficult cross, pod parent is tetra Emerald Starburst. Larry grace conversion that I had to get several times in order to get a useable conversion. Finally isolated a pod fertile conversion. I got 2 seeds. Pollen was from Spacecoast White Fang, 2020 introduction that was $500 as well. Color, green throat, and toothy edge makes it the top of its class. Thus, the name, does not get any better than Tyrannosaurus Rex.
