Two large healthy fans of BEST IN CLASS. From Maryott's notes: "35-37 inches, EMLa, 5.5 inches, Ev, Tet. Bud count up to 30 and fertile both ways. For nearly twenty years, we were devoted to breeding bearded iris. The holy grail was red. When I started with daylilies I was obsessed with making a really good red daylily. When PURE INDULGENCE came on the market, I could see it's potential. I was hoping that either HEARTS OF FIRE or REASON FOR TREASON would be a good match. Even though REASON FOR TREASON is not spectrum red nor is PURE INDULGENCE, we got this seedling that has the fine characteristics of both parents. We continue to compare it to all the new reds coming on the market each year and thus the name. Fertile both ways and it continues to throw it's fine characteristics. Sdlg. D290A: REASON FOR TREASON X PURE INDULGENCE)."

ABOUT BITTERSWEET FARM: Our ten acres of woods, ravines, and garden beds is located outside of Granville, Ohio. In this part of Ohio (zone 6A), we grow in clay soil amended with lots of manure, peat, compost, etc. Temperatures can drop to -20, so the daylilies I sell must be hardy enough to survive our winters. Rust does not overwinter here, and I’ve never seen it in the garden. I start seeds from my own crosses each year in our small greenhouse, and everything else is grown outside -- all of our named cultivars, as well as our seedlings, are field grown, hardy, and beautiful.
Please let me know if you ever have a concern about plants you receive from me. I stand behind everything I sell. I hope that you get as much pleasure from these daylilies as I do.
Unless otherwise noted, all photos belong to Bittersweet Farm and were taken in our garden.
