Captain America (Gossard, James) 2010 introduction (Royal Curls x Heavenly Spider Monkey) Dip 44" Mid season Dormant emo fr 7.5" 3-4 way branching 18-22 buds. Fertile both ways. Captain America has very dark red flowers with an extremely green throat. Throat is greener than shown in my photo. It is my absolute best red spider introduced to date. It is an unusual formed cascade, true spider with a ratio of 5.5 to 1. It is a break through in dormant spider breeding. The off spring are spectacular because of the intense green throats it throws into the kids. Because of its back ground genetics one can use it with almost every color with success. I now have all shades of pinks, purples, roses and etc. out of Captain America that have super green throats. A super Daylily... What makes a great daylily is its parents. It is building on what other hybridizers have done with their daylilies. Captain America may be at the top of the pyramid, but it is built upon the success of others. Part of keeping good pedigrees is that it becomes apparent what is a good parent. It shows in how hybridizers can make the advancements they are seeking in off spring of their flowers. I find it interesting that Captain America with its 2 doses of Royal Curls, which also has 2 doses of Satan's Curls in it, are both very green throated reds. This flower has 3 doses of Green Widow, 3 doses of Green Avalanche, 3 doses of Garden Portrait and 2 doses of Lois Burns in it. As you can see its no wonder from where the green throat is coming. It is coming from many generations of line breeding for green throats and of course the spider form. |
