TARZANA (Stamile, P.) TET 63-L (Bodine X Tet Emerald Starburst) 28” E Ev Re Fr. CMO. 8” 3-way branching. 18 buds.

          There were a lot of initial selections from this cross as you can see from the seedling number 63-L. I almost ran out of alphabet numbers numbering the selecteds. The cross just worked. Bodine imparted size, early and cool morning opening, enhanced rich clear color while Tet Emerald Starburst contributed to the green throat. In the end though one selected seedling was clearly superior to all the rest – Tarzana.

          This huge clear grape purple sports a giant green throat that spills out almost to the ends of the petals and sepals. The color of the green and the warmth of the purple combine beautifully into what in the garden looks like a giant picotee.

          Progressive bloom sequencing and strong rebloom gives this flower 5 ½ months of continuous bloom. There is no rest period between rebloom so Tarzana always seems to be in bloom. Really a must flower if you experience any cool weather in the early season.

          Easily fertile both ways. Tarzana gives a lot of dormant seedlings with both Tet Timestopper and Tet Emerald Starburst in the pedigree. Love this daylily and a fun daylily to hybridize with.

          This name is suggestive of the path I am trying to explore. How many of the colors of the rainbow can we incorporate into the daylily bloom? The colors, of course, must be vibrant and clear. Rainbow Road moves us into this direction with a creamy pale yellow base, purple, wine and lavender shades with grays and greens at the throat.  Flowers are nicely picotteed in purple and always present themselves as flat. Rainbow Road is very tall and beautiful.

Fertile both ways.
