These make smaller fans for me. GAUDEAMUS (Moldovan 2010) (means Let Us Rejoice in Latin) 35-04: (282-02: (125-00: (37-99: ((Vatican City x Red Candy) x Forestlake Raggamuffin) x 149-00: (Trivia Pursuit x (Vatican City x (Voltaire x Lady Khan))) X 299-01: (Sparkling Champagne x Victorian Lace) 38 plus inch scape - 6 inch diameter - 4 to 5 way branching - 30+ buds – dormant Based on my own initial reaction when H. Gaudeamus first bloomed as well as the many reactions from virtually everyone who visited and saw this magnificent creation I would rank it as being one of the most important daylilies that Steve ever produced. She was so spectacular that a shovel was immediately grabbed and it was moved into a selected bed on its maiden bloom, which is something that is rarely done here at the garden. My only regret is that Steve was not around to see how this daylily improved even more once moved into the selected beds. I am particularly impressed with the clarity of the rose-pink coloration although given that it is one of Steve's creations I should not be. One of the parents involved tended to throw somewhat buff colored seedlings when used here with other parents but not H. Gaudeamus. To add to H. Gaudeamus' presentation is a fabulous, highly toothed edge in a rich, bold butter-yellow color that makes this beauty visible from across the garden. Another claim to fame with this cultivar would have to be its stellar plant habit. The scape is to die for with its lowest branch count being four-way and its typical branching being five-way. Dan Robarts, Bill Chambers and described its plant habit as being “one best that I have seen anywhere”. Foliage is in proportion with the rest of the plant and remains pleasant well past the flower's bloom cycle. As if this were not enough she is one of the most fertile daylilies either way that we have in the garden. I could keep going but I suspect that you have figured out how moved I am with this creation of Steve's.
