Roller Coaster Rush x Born to be Wild - 6 seeds
(pictures and descriptions are hybridizer's unless noted)
*Rollercoaster Rush (Pierce G.) TET 9315 ((Mountain Wildflower x Sdlg) x Fringy) 44” 6.5” flower, EV emo EMre, 8-way branching with 45-50 buds. Arching Foliage.
This is one big showy flower on tall wonderfully branched scapes, looking all the while like a 7”or larger bloom! The large double edged flowers sit high above the low arching foliage and make for in instant attraction. Blooms on Rollercoaster Rush are solid with heavy edging of ruffles and spikes. No hanging. I have taken Rollercoaster Rush to both big edges to increase scape height and to patterns with great success and will await yet another year’s crop of new seedlings next spring. Like all the flowers I introduce this flower is absolutely consistent from first bloom to the last, and is one that looks much better in person I hope you’ll love it as I do. Fertile both ways.
*BORN TO BE WILD (Pierce, G.) 8163-A (((Calling All Angles x Sue Brown) x Mountain Wildflower) x Fringy) SEV EM 32” 6.25” flower, 6 way branching, 35-40 buds. The perfect name for literally a perfect modern daylily, and “Oh My Heavens” a great parent!!! In 2008, I wanted to put a green edge all around the edges of Floyd Cove’s richly colored eyed daylilies. Of course I got the stuffed shirt lecture… and as you can see by this cross I put the lovely Fringy on our edged and eyed hems.
From six seed came four keepers, two dormant and two SEV. All were extremely pod fertile and began throwing winning offspring. I was going to introduce one of the dormant sibs but it looked too similar to BTBW to be released. Anyway, BORN TO BE WILD has all the modern criteria that are essential to be released as a Floyd Cove daylily. Low arching foliage, scape height and buds, color clarity, health, and a unique look, BTBW got it’s great fertility from the pod parent, and will accept any pollen you give her easily. This trait has been passed down to her future offspring, and they are dreamy. The base color of BORN TO BE WILD is a clean near white with a plum purple eye and a matching purple picottee, the picottee is then completely edged in chartreuse. There is also a bright green throat. Very easily fertile. Limited.
Obviously you can start your seeds any way you find that works for you, but I highly recommend starting in damp vermiculite (about a teaspoon per bag) using the bag they are shipped in and keep in the refrigerator till sprouted. Plant in sterile growth medium (I use Promix). I've had great success with this method.

The size and shape of seeds can vary greatly. Some are plump with no wrinkling or shriveling, while others are wrinkled up quite a lot. Some daylilies produce tiny seeds and others are fat and plump. This does not change their viability. All precautions are taken to protect the viability of the seeds. Seeds are inspected before shipping and any that don’t pass the pinch test are eliminated.
