KAREN STEPHENS (Kinnebrew, 2009)
Daylily (SC Rebel Yell X Jerry Nettles) Pure Indulgence 6”, sev, rec, TET – With Randy Stephens as our cover flower this past year, it only stands to reason that we name a flower for his “better half” this year. Besides saturated dark red color and ruffled gold edge, Karen has as good a plant habit as you can find anywhere in our garden. Huge plants produce strong, very well branched scapes. At times, we have counted as many as 4 or 5 lateral branches, plus the top. Tremendous fertility is another highly favorable trait. It seems that you can set a pod any time you like, with any pollen you choose. With this in mind, many of our very best seedlings are from Karen, especially as a pod parent. These range from reds and blacks with gold edges, reds with gold and white toothy edges, to even some doubles, as this flower will occasionally double late in the season. Unfortunately, darker colors have proven difficult for us to capture on an image, so please take our word for the beauty of this flower. Outstanding 30” scapes hold up to 32 buds. Strong multiple bloomer. Again, extremely fertile.
Red Ragamuffin (2010 Polston)
30" 5" 3- way branching with 15-18 buds. Dor. Tet. Dragon Slayer x Forestlake Ragamuffin. Red Ragamuffin is a bright Red daylily that sports a fantastic gold toothed edge set nicely above a vibrant green thoat. "Red Ragamuffin" produces many different shades of vibrant red seedlings with great toothy edges when crossed with other edged and teeth daylilies. Wildly pod fertile, I have been able to make crosses with whatever pollen parent I choose.
