Pod parent: MVMLS-47 (unregistered) M 25” DOR 5½” purple with waves of missing color pattern, a terminal W with 2 laterals and an average of 27 buds. While this seedling will live out the rest of its life here as a bridge plant because it is short and (horrors!) fat, the consistency of pattern through a wider range of temperatures than either of its parents portends interesting things for patterned crosses. (MAUDE’S VALENTINE X MILITARY SCHOOL).
Pollen parent: BANSHEE SONATA (Michaels 2015 intro registered in 2014) M 39" DOR 8" (13" wingspan) This is my very favorite spider -- of anyone's! For now. And since spiders are my very favorite form of any, I guess I should just come out and say that this glowing lavender, perhaps closer to orchid, with cream to green throat is my favorite daylily. How lucky am I! It has wonderful color and form and, when the weather is chilly, it gets those "white" missing color chevrons near the throat. I used its pollen from the first day it bloomed, mostly on patterned partners, and have already selected several true spiders with patterned eyes from it. While the number of fans and even scapes increase fairly rapidly, it's a tad slow to get to full strength. It took three years for it to produce mature scapes here, at which point they put out a terminal W with 1-2 laterals and 23-30 buds. Other plants normally reach their peak here in their second year after being ripped out of the seedling bed. I plan to introduce a patterned spider from it in 2017. The Spider ratio doesn't range much, from 5.095 to 5.1:1. A most difficult pod parent (but I did manage to pollinate it with SKINWALKER) with acceptable pollen, it is pollen parent of CERESIAN CITROEN. Makes slender fans. Seedling WPSBLCTF-14 [WATCHYL PROTEAN SPIDER X (BANSHEE LOVE CALL x TENNESSEE FLYCATCHER)].
Goals: This is a cross I’ve planned to do for a few years but always got sidetracked. Expecting purple Unusual Forms with missing color patterns à la CERESIAN CITROEN but perhaps more so.
The seeds have been air dried for 1-3 days before being refrigerated. Please store them in your fridge until ready to plant.
Due to the prolonged extreme drought and record heat this year, there will be significantly fewer offerings. Bonus seeds for prompt contact and payment will usually consist of additional seeds of the same cross.
