Cactus Blossom
(Gossard, James) 2009 introduction
(Strawberry Candy x Heavenly Beginnings) x (Born to Late x Crocodile Smile)
Tetraploid, Scape Height 41", Late Season,, Dormant, Early Morning Opener, Fragrant, 5 1/4" Bloom, 5 way branching, 24 buds. Fertile both ways. Rebloomer, Very good rust resistance. Northern Hardy.
Flowers are strawberry red, covered with thorny cactus tentacles. Both of the parents have teeth, the last parent was a seedling from Matthew Kaskel. It had huge teeth, but not the color and it's teeth were heat related. Cactus Blossom does not need the heat to produce the teeth. The tentacles are strawberry color, outlined in gold. A very good parent for producing eyed flowers with teeth and tentacles.
Man-eater
(Gossard, James) 2015 introduction
(Thundercat) x (Outer Limits)
Tetraploid, Scape Height 28", Mid-late season, Dormant, Early Morning Opener, Fragrant, 7-8" Bloom, 3-4 way branching, 18-22 buds. Fertile both ways. Rebloomer. Very good rust resistance. Northern Hardy.
Flowers of Man-eater are red with dark blackish eye with feathered red coming out of green throat. (A pattern daylily by AHS definition) Flowers have red, white and gold teeth. Pedigree is also very interesting being from my Outer Limits which is a cross of one my best, Saber tooth Tiger crossed with John Benz's best kid, Reap The Whirlwind, both of which are from (Forestlake Ragamuffin x Tetra Spindazzle). While Thundercat does not show teeth, its genetics is full of toothy parents. That's why it is so important to know genetics. First of its kind to have great color in an eyed and double edged toothy flowers. A super hybridizing and garden plant.
