Pod parent: MPSWSPKLTOGMLS-11 (unregistered) first bloomed in 2015 from a cross done in 2013 (most of the other crosses done that year won’t bloom until 2016) on very short scapes, but the pattern was so strongly contrasted that I had to move the plant to the selected bed. The blooms were 9” across, warm pink with a double red etched eye surrounding a large missing color chevron. Petals of this seedling and all of its sibs were much wider than the sepals. All of the parents are DOR. Note that I use “MPS” as the abbreviation for STARLIGHT SPLASH because I first grew the plant as “Margo’s Patterned Seedling.” Parentage: STARLIGHT SPLASH X {[(WILSON SPIDER x KINDLY LIGHT) x TOMORROW’S SONG] x MILITARY SCHOOL}.
Pollen parent: CERESIAN CITROEN (Michaels 2017 intro registered in 2016) M 37” DOR 7” (10¼” wingspan) near spatulate 4:1 purple Spider that displays 1or more missing color chevrons over a yellow green throat on all but the very hottest days. It makes sense that the inhabitants of the dwarf planet Ceres would drive a small car, and Citroen, whose emblem is a double chevron, has cornered the market between Mars and Jupiter with the DS3. Easily pod fertile with very good pollen, it, unlike its mom and many of its mom’s offspring, opens early in the morning. Also unlike its mom, it has strong upright scapes. They display a lateral branch and 18 buds. Almost every kid I’ve seen from it so far has been patterned. Seedling MLSBSO-18 (MILITARY SCHOOL X BANSHEE SONATA).
