Heavenly Way Big
(Gossard, James) 2014 introduction
((Purple Starfish x (Pretty Desirable x Neon Flamingo)) x Tetra Skinwalker)
Tetraploid, 38" scape, mid season, Dormant, emo, fr, 14" bloom, 4-5 way branching, 25-30 buds. Fertile both ways. Rebloomer. True spider 5.0 to 1 and a UFO Cascade.
Flowers of Heavenly Way Big are maroon with a bluish purple eye zone and a very green throat. Heavenly Way Big is my super breeder daylily. Sets pods and pollen is extremely powerful setting on very hard to use pod parents. A very good rebloomer. Starts mid season and reblooms into very late season. Has who's who of converted diploid spiders in pedigree, a few are tetra Kindly Light, tetra Skinwalker, tetra Dallas Star, tetra Green Widow, tetra Open Hearth and tetra Rainbow spangles. Also important is Waiting in the wings which had Snooks Harville's seedling SC102 in it, which was an incredibly beautiful and twisted red true spider and a hard dormant. It should also be noted that all parents in my pedigree, (Purple Starfish x (Pretty Desirable x Neon Flamingo)) x Tetra Skinwalker are dormant. Very important if you are hybridizing for hardy spiders. I remember the year that I planted the seedlings which produced heavenly Way Big. I planted seedlings in late July, we had a bad winter and 98% of those seedlings died, from all types of crosses. Heavenly Way Big was a survivor. I lined it out in November last year and laughed at our winters. Its a great daylily.
