Monster Quest
(Gossard, James) 2015 introduction Seedling # G125-12
Larry Grace seedling= [(((Cherry Valentine x Tetra Connie Burton) x (Cimarron Rose x Velvet Throne))) x ((Born to run x Scarlet Angel) x Velvet Throne)) x ((China Clipper x Velvet Throne) x ( Shirley Anne McCord X Marietta Heartbeat) )] x Tetra Emerald Starburst
Tetraploid 29" Midseason Semi Evergreen emo Semi-nocturnal fr 6-7" 3-4 way branching 18-22 buds. Fertile both ways. Rebloomer.
Flowers of Monster Quest are purple with feathered pink watermark (A pattern daylily by AHS definition) and dark purple eye zone and a very green throat. Edge is toothy white, more so on sepals than petals. My goal has been to take Emerald Starburst line into the tetraploids and create a round northern hardy nocturnal tooth line. For many years I disliked nocturnal daylilies because they start opening the night before and lose color by noon and close up by late afternoon. Living in the north we have cold nights, 48-50 degrees F sometimes. As a result flowers open poorly, the pattern and toothy daylilies seem to be the worst. I wanted a daylily that was perfect in the mornings after a cold night but yet take the high heat and still look good at 8 PM. This also corrects for the same problem in the south also. Daylilies that do not melt and are able to look good at 8pm. Everyone said could not be done. However with this new line from Tetra Emerald Starburst I got what I was looking for. Monster Quest is one of the first of many future generations which corrects for this problem in the north. A super good parent for hybridizing large patterned toothy daylilies. Thanks Larry Grace for sharing genetics and selling me tetra Emerald Starburst!. Monster Quest is super pod fertile. Pollen is great to, but you can set so many pods why even use the pollen. You will see Monster Quest in a lot of future introductions. Pedigree is also very interesting being conversion and the best of the big edge flowers. These rare genes not found in any other round daylilies. I just love this daylily. A super hybridizing and garden plant.........$200 single fan..
KINGDOM WITHOUT END TET 57802{ (Tim Kornder x Born to Reign) x Darla Anita}, 26” (range of 22”-28”), M, Sev, instant MN rebloom on almost all scapes, fr, 6” (range of 6”-7”depending on recurving), EMO even on very cold mornings, 4-way branching most years with 2-lats + V (range of 3-5 way) and 5-way some years, 18 buds (range of 12-25). Clear rose cranberry violet grape with lavender wash; lavender plus ivory white edge; butter yellow to lime green throat. Edge will show sharks in the 90’s. Clear color, flawless blooms on every scape on every plant every day (no spotting from rain or dew or insects), blooms for weeks, great scape, great foliage, super hardy, blossoms self-cleaning (not gloppy the next morning), perfect presentation every day. A standout from its initial bloom and a visitor magnet. Super parent, especially for white and sharky edges. Fertile both ways. As close to a perfect plant and flower that I have ever grown. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
