POD PARENT HYBRIDIZER'S DESCRIPTION:
(Benz) tet 34" M. Dor. (Duke Of Burgundy X Tet. Grand Masterpiece)
This is our most important offering so far in the ever-popular black class. Larger than most at a full 6", this is also one of the very darkest. Wide, full and ruffled, this is the most voluptuous black-purple we've seen. Color in indigo-black in the morning, but lightens to a rich black-purple after a day in full sun. A large triangular throat of cleanest pale-green adds remarkable contrast to this velvety black color. Plants are huge and vigorous, with strong erect scapes boasting 4-5 lateral branches, a widespread terminal cluster, and a bud-count of 30+. We've counted as high as 40! Lush, arching foliage is a beautiful healthy deep green, and increases rapidly. Fertile both ways. Pods are not easy in full sun. Indispensable if you are serious about breeding "state-of-the-art" black daylilies or if you just want the most spectacular black daylily available as a garden focal point! SOLD OUT
POLLEN PARENT HYBRIDIZER'S DESCRIPTION:
POLLEN PARENT:
*QUOTING HEMINGWAY (Pierce G.) 3195-A (Bluegrass Shadows x Sdlg) SEV, EE, 40” tall, 7.5” flower, 7 way branching, 55-60 buds Multi Rebloom/Everbloomer.
Bluegrass Shadows has been a tremendous parent for me and I got use her again heavily this year. QUOTING HEMMINGWAY is thus far one of my best daylilies for breeding. The very wide ruffled white to yellow/white edge is absolutely amazing. There is a large bluish/silver watermark that is quite refreshing and this bluish color sparkles around the petals inside the big ruffles. The thick edge reminds me of sparkling clouds and the whole impression is of a holiday in Key West, hence the name – QUOTING HEMMINGWAY. This flower absolutely wows me and blooms nonstop. A strong and easy grower I hope you enjoy growing QUOTING HEMMINGWAY as much as I have. I will continue to use this daylily for years to come. Fertile both ways. Very Limited.
