The pod parent is Jack Carpenter's "Bold Awakening". The pollen parent is Sandy Nall's "Like A Shepherd".
FORECAST:
Generally, I prefer to let the pictures tell the story about any cross, and for me, there is a bit of "subjective magic" in imaging what a cross will yield that is unique to each for us in that visualizationexercise. However, some crosses deserve a bit more and I think it is beneficial to share, what Tim Herrington, whom I greatly admire, would call "hybridizing intuition". This cross is special and has great potential. The above picture of the pod parent "Bold Awakening" (picture from my garden) captures some of the deep royal purple hues that have an iridescence with blue and slate undertones. The pollen parent, "Like A Shepherd", is an excellent cultivar from Sandy Nall. It can take several years for some of Sandy's cultivarsto get established in my zone 6B garden, that said, they are absolutely worth the wait, and "Like A Shepherd" was certainly one of them.
The goal of this cross is to bring the purple-blue and bloom yield from "Bold Awakening" into the eye of the wonderfully unique coloration and patterning of "Like A Shepherd". If you look closely, you can see "Like A Shepherd" has undertones of slate and blue in the eye zone that should be capable of enhancement. If successful, the color from this cross will pop and the contrast between the base and eye will not only be visually pleasing, but also, be VERY unique. The sepals and throat are the "wild cards" here, and I am hopeful that seedlings from this cross will exhibit throats of both green and orange in their phenotypes. For me, this serves to only further captivate my interests.
So why sell it? well, I just don't have enough room to grow all my crosses. I plan to keep 5 seeds to grow out in my garden, but cannot afford more space considering all the other crosses from 2021 that have captured my interest, and would rather share these seeds with someone else who willappreciate the potential of this cross, as I have described above.
