Seven inch golden yellow blooms display plum, lavender and redish toned patterns. Like all of our new patterned offerings this cultivar is in short supply.

Ina 1937 movie starring William Powell and Myrna Loy, the word Yumph was used to express passion and verve. I can watch any movie starring this coupleover and over, likely because of the Yumph factor. I feel like saying Yumph whenever I see this large, juicy grape pattern, and it's a fun word to say. Try it. The base is pale cornmeal and the chartreuse throat is the perfect touch. Linen white breaks in the pattern are stronger on the sepals. Metallic glints appear at times, especially on rebloom. I made many hundreds of seeds from Heavy Metal a long while back, which isprobably in its background.

While the pattern in the two close-ups is not always this strenuous I could not resist showing photos of Yumph's best efforts. Sometimes there is just a lowly eyeon displaybut this is Yumph taking ashort rest. Bear in mind that patterns are more fullyexpresseda year or two after planting when the roots arewell established.

Patterns are knownfor theirtendency to canoe and curl inward. The photo in which the petals areopen wide was taken on a hotter day. I have been working hard to achieve fully unfurled cool morning openers, discarding thousands of belligerent seedlings. After all, we want to see the full face of pattern expression.
Yumph develops into a good clump with close offsets and sports narrow leaves. I recommend crossing Yumph to patterns with a higher bud count to improve on the scapes. Sets pods easily. 2014 intro.
