Many years ago I was inspired while visiting Elizabeth Salter's garden and seeing her wonderful pattered diploids. From that point on I had to have a line of my own which had to be dormants, taller and more spidery. Many parents were tender and as a result I had to cross in the greenhouse. They were planted outside and 80-90% died from the harsh Ohio winters. But the few that survived were evergreen. After more crossing, I got Creative Design, Black Eyed Jester, Blue Viper and Squirrelly. A key parent was Heavenly Spider monkey. Jeff Salter told me to cross red and blues to get better blues. I did and he was right. We Can Dance was produced. It was hard dormant and had the traits I was looking for. Heavenly Spider Monkey also produced some very strange mutations. If you look through my intros you will see what I mean. Next year I will release my 4-8 day bloomers which are double spiders from Heavenly Spider Monkey. There is something in HSM that makes great kids. Captain America is a HSM kid, Which is the parent of my new, Digital Dynamics. HSM is in 5 of the 9 new intros. My 2014 Stout Winner, Heavenly Angel Ice is in 3 of the new intros. Because these have so diverse genetics, one can take this collection and cross them together and get some great kids. One will bypass the 15 years and 100,000 seedlings it took me to get to these. Crossing these together will give 90% dormants with great plant habit, which will perform in zones 3 to 9 very well"
