Big Red Bull (Pierce G , 20190 x Happy Go Ruffles (Pierce, G. '20) – 5 sds
BIG RED BULL (Pierce G. – 2019) 571-A (Big Red Wagon x Tet Rose F. Kennedy) x (Red Bull x Tet Rose F. Kennedy) (a side note -this came from a very small cross – the first parents/cross only gave me 2 seeds!) SEV EM re 38” tall, 8.5” flower, 9 way branching, 45-55 buds, fragrant, flat flower.
This is the first Red with features and excitement. There is a lot going on in BIG RED BULL, and best of all every bloom is perfection, opening perfectly!!! The color in the picture does have some purple shades in it, the RED is seen more with your own eye. A perfect daylily carrying ALL 8 of (my) required characteristics to become a Pierce introduction. A funny story. The first year she bloomed after seedling selection, a man came up to me and said he wanted to “Follow” this daylily. I said sure. With the blooms texture and all the branching, I could see why. What is especially beautiful and unique is the watermark, a watermelon/bubblegum white which repeats on the edging too. A Neon Green throat covers 50% of the flower face – GLOWING!
HAPPY GO RUFFLES Pierce G. 4007-G (Talladega x Ruby Ridge) x (Seedling x Unknown) EV, EM, RE, 35” high, 7.5” flower, 6-way branching, 30+ buds, Very Fragrant.
Finally, I got a Red keeper from Talladega. Being rose, small and with tall foliage, it took a while to get there, but boy did I. HAPPY GO RUFFLES is a vibrant True Red with wide petals and extreme ruffling, even Angle Wings colored in Gold, Yellow, and White. With HAPPY’S Wide Petals & big edging, she still does not hang-up. I have so many cover shots of this large and amazing red flower. She sits on a tremendous set of scapes, is easily pod fertile, and honestly too good of a parent! The green is back in the throats now, and I already have plans for “podding” her up for next year.
All crosses have been made in my garden and are from the 2021 crop. Seeds are all from true to name registered daylilies. Seeds have been dried 2 days and kept in the refrigerator, ready to plant. I give bonus seeds of my choosing with each shipment.
